Short head of the biceps

short head of the biceps

One of the two muscle heads of the biceps, the short head is located to the inner most region of the upper anterior arm. Biceps brachii is Latin for “two headed muscle of the arm”.

Being responsible for the flexion of the arm, the biceps can be successfully targeted with arm curling exercises, particularly those which involve a supinated (palms up) grip, which causes greater biceps activity. The biceps are also engaged to a high degree during rowing and pull up exercises which involve a supinated grip, such as traditional chin ups.
