In contradiction to many popular reports, Anderson Silva is healthy! The UFC Middleweight Champion was rumored to be out with an injured elbow that was in need of surgery. Fighters Only caught up with the Spider in Rio De Janeiro last weekend, and confirmed that he is fully healthy.
From Fighters Only:
“I don’t know anything at all about any elbow injury,” he said, adding with a laugh, “I wonder who hurt me?”
The UFC is set to match Frank Mir against Cheick Kongo in a heavyweight clash at UFC 107. Anderson had been quoted as saying he wanted to fight Mir at heavyweight and he is still ready for that match.
“I’m 200 percent healthy and there’s no injury. UFC can set the next fight whenever they want, I’m ready. I’m interested in fighting Frank Mir. He can be the next one,” he says.
UFC president Dana White said this week that Silva would not be fighting at heavyweight unless he first cleans out the 205lb division (which would mean a meeting with his close friend Lyoto Machida).
It’s nice to know that Silva is in good health. The dominant champion’s willingness to fight in different weight classes is creating some interesting possibilities. Silva is such a talented fighter, an argument could be made that he could be a strong force in the Light Heavyweight, and Heavyweight division as well.
