On Monday a source confirmed to ESPN.com’s Joe Schad that Texas Christian University would join the Big East conference effective 2012.
TCU currently plays in the Mountain West Conference and has a 12-0 record placing them third in the BCS standings. By switching to the Big East, TCU would automatically qualify for a major BCS bowl game with their current record.
Without the Boise State loss on Saturday night to Nevada it is likely TCU would have been forced out of an opportunity to play in a major BCS bowl game. There is still the possibility that TCU could play in the National Championship game if Oregon or Auburn were to lose their final game.
The MWC is currently undergoing many changes with BYU and Utah headed out and Boise State joining. This will be TCU’s forth different conference since 1996 – WAC, Conference USA, MWC, and now the Big East.
