After the 8 second devastating finish of proven fighter Cub Swanson and third straight 1st round TKO, one would think Jose Aldo is a given to challenge Mike Brown for the 145lb title.
Not so fast.
WEC general manager Reed Harris tells MMAJunkie.com “It’s not safe to say” when asked whether Aldo was next in line at a title shot.
So if not Mike Brown then who?
Former IFL featherweight champ Wagney Fabiano has an impressive enough resume to warrant a title shot yet also been less than stellar in his two WEC victories. He poses a legitimate enough challenge to Aldo and would be a test for the youngster. A win by either men virtually guarantees a title shot at Brown. They both came from the Nova Uniao Camp so a potential friendship could throw a wrench in that fight.
With that question lingering; Who else could the WEC throw Jose Aldo’s way?
What about a Faber vs Aldo match-up? Faber is young and marketable enough to survive a loss to the up-and-coming Aldo and still climb back to the top. A Faber win allows him to immediately regain some of the lost star power in his back to back losses to Brown.
An Aldo victory over Urijah and the WEC instantly has a new poster boy a la Miguel Torres in 145lb division and secures a can’t miss mega-fight with Mike Brown.
